UNIVERSITY OF GHANA RUGBY TEAM CROSS FIRST HURDLE


The university of Ghana rugby team over the weekend was able to cross the first hurdle in her quest to annex the converted trophy in that 15’s league.    
The team trashed Accra sharks 18 tries to nothing to commencing the league. The team opened her campaign with a penalty kick by Theophilus Opai in the early hours of the game. This was followed shortly with a try by skipper Marshall Nortey, however Theo’s conversion miss the poles by inches.
 Getting to the 35th minute the team was given another penalty which eighth man; Sadat Salifu spectacularly kicked over the ‘H’ pole. This kick sent the game to recess.
In the second half skipper Marshall Nortey weaved his way beautifully through the defense line to score the second try of the day. A beautiful place kick by Sadat ended the game.
 Due to the splendid performance of the team, 10 of her players where called into the national team for justification. These players include: Marshall Nortey, Philip Asomani, Frank Twumasi-Ankrah, Jonas Adjiri, Sadat Salifu, Emmanuel Fedah, Jafaru Mustapha, Emmanuel Kalos, Theophilus Opai, and Kenneth Otchere
Elsewhere cosmos buffalos scored IDAS rugby club 28 to zero to emerge current league leaders.
This Saturday the 20th of April promises a lot of action since team UG comes up against league leaders and act rivals; cosmos buffalos to separate the men from the boys.
