Viviana Efua Dansowaa is in the news again and for the right
reasons. If i was to place a bet on a UG athlete in the 22nd GUSA
Games, it would have in no doubt beenViviana. Having made a personal time of 58.40 sec during
the UG Inter-hall Athletics in 2011, we thought she had finished improving on
her Shenzhen time of 59.84 just for us to be surprised again at Kumasi.
Viviana has made her intentions clear by breaking the
GUSA record of 57.7 sec by the first 400m women’s race (HEAT 1). She now holds a new GUSA record of 56.57 sec
in 400m women.
She calmly started with all the experience acquired at international
tournaments and the other athletes from UCC, UEW, UDS, IPS and
KNUST could not close the 15m gap she gave them. Throughout the entire race she displayed professionalism by staying
focused on her ambition, running towards the finishing line like a cheetah at at
a constant pace. Viviana I must say is an athlete in her own class and we are fortunate to have her run for the only University of Ghana. With her current form,
she still has room for improvement and Ghana should start considering her for
international duties. With the 200m and the 400m final races I
believe she still has a lot in store for us.
