The men have finally been separated from the boys in
the University of Ghana inter hall soccer league after group B witnessed its
final match action yesterday.
The dream of a title defense has been cut short for Legon
hall despite their 5-1 drubbing over bottom place United Nations hall (EVANDY).
Knowing very well their chances of playing in the
top 4 competition was over; the premier hall came into the game to console
themselves with a victory which was not denied them by EVANDY.
Edmund Nana Kyei’s brace and a goal each from Felix
Ntiamoah, Derrick Kyei Gyasi and Afari Derrick was enough to give Legon hall
the maximum points with Moses Andoh’s consolation goal not enough to cause any
upset.
Speaking to Univers sports after the game, coach of
Legon hall Akwasi Boakye Yiadom described how the season has been for his side
as a nightmare full of injuries.
“Most of our key players got injured midway through
the league and we even had to call up injured players for some of our matches
because we were short in numbers in specific positions hence our poor run”.
In the other matches played in group B, Former
champions Akuafo hall shared the spoils with 2nd from bottom placed
team Bani hall at the Ajax 1 park.
Striker Seth Awudi secured a point for the farmers
after cancelling out Alex Nana Osei’s goal.
Akuafo hall had already booked their place in the
top 4 competition hence the need to field most of their fringe players against
a Bani side that came into the game for all the spoils.
Elsewhere, Group B leader’s commonwealth hall also
had to wait till the last minute to keep their unbeaten run in the league
intact after going down early in the game against 3rd place James
Topp Nelson Yankah hall (TF).
Enoch Koranteng gave TF the lead and forced
commonwealth hall to chase their own shadows until Emmanuel Hanson saved the
day for the vandals with his late equalizer.
The thrill of the local derbies here on campus was
experienced once more in the final game of the season between neighbours Hilla
limann hall and Elizabeth Sey hall after 4 goals were produced.
Limann hall announced their supremacy over Elizabeth
sey hall with a 3-1 thumping.
After 14 matches played in group B, only two teams,
Commonwealth hall and Akuafo hall have been able to stand tall among the 8
teams of the group and sealed their place in the top 4 competition slated for
April 16th, 2014.
For group A, it will take the last match day on
Friday to realize the team that joins Mensah Sarbah hall to the top 4.
And with just one more place up for grabs in the top 4,
GRASAG and the Distance team will be hoping to snatch it come this Friday.
