WEAR RED DAY


GO Red for Women Ghana in collaboration with the University of Ghana (UG) Sports Directorate presents the “WEAR RED DAY” Family Picnic on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the University of Ghana Athletics Oval from 6:30 a.m. The day will include the following activities:
1    .        1km health walk (on some selected routes of the University of Ghana), 

2    .           Aerobics (led by the Sports Directorate aerobics instructor Alfred Attieku)
3    .       Health talk (by speakers from UG Sports Directorate, Go Red for Women Ghana and experts from the Ministry of Health)
4    .     Picnic and fun games
The WEAR RED DAY programme serves as a platform to create awareness on the prevention, diagnosis and control of Heart diseases and stroke among women.  
GO Red for Women Ghana in collaboration with the UG Sports Directorate has therefore invited all members especially women in the security services, churches, schools, Ghana Education Service, students and members of UG community and beyond to be part of the occasion.
The WEAR RED DAY programme falls in line with the Sports Directorate’s aim of supporting social and developmental projects to promote awareness on health related issues. In the light of this, the collaboration will aim at enhancing fitness, health, well-being and holistic development of students, staff and the University Community, through participation in a worthwhile sporting and recreational activities. Furthermore this collaboration is in line with the all-inclusive sports and recreational policy of the Sports Directorate.
Go Red for Women Ghana is an international awareness campaigner created by The American Heart Association in 2004 to empower women with the knowledge and tools to take charge of their health and that of their families. The campaign aims to encourage women to seek more medical attention and to prompt the government to add this topic to the health agenda.
